Middle School

If you think dentistry is right for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I enjoy interacting with people on a daily basis?
  • Am I a leader?
  • Do I enjoy hobbies that involve fine motor skills?
  • Can I visualize things in my head three-dimensionally?
  • Am I a neat person, and do I pay close attention to detail?
  • Do I do well or enjoy biology and/or chemistry?

If you are answering “yes” to these questions:

You may find yourself at home with a career in dentistry. If you answered “no” to some of these but are still convinced that dentistry is right for you, try some of these to put yourself to the test:

  • Shadow a dentist
  • Carve or wax up teeth or anything that requires detail and small
  • Try putting your mind to the test with the perceptual ability section of DAT prep booklets (Dental Admissions Test)
  • Get involved at your school and in the community
  • Become a leader of a group at your school. Really test your ability to lead a group of people with the same common goal or mission
  • Start taking a heavy load of science courses
