Clinical Associate Professor, Public Health Sciences
Texas A&M University, College of Dentistry
Dr. Joe Simmons graduated in 1998 from Baylor College of Dentistry, now known as Texas A&M College of Dentistry, and in 1999 completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency and is currently full-time faculty at the same institution. He and his brother are fifth-generation dentists – an uncommon family history. Dr. Simmons was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, an indication of his commitment to lifelong learning and constant striving to stay up to date in all aspects of modern dental care. He has acquired hundreds of hours of continuing dental education credits.
Prior to pursuing a career in dentistry, Dr. Simmons, a native Dallasite, was an underwater archaeologist studying shipwrecks. He is an acknowledged expert on Spanish ships of discovery, early artillery, and life at sea, including the development of ships’ toilets – no kidding. Texas A&M University Press has published two editions of his book on the subject, titled Those Vulgar Tubes, which is available on Amazon.com.
Dr. Simmons enjoys biking, kayaking, and photography and works in other media including wood, charcoal, pen & ink, acrylic, porcelain, and gold. His art has been featured in museum exhibits, academic and popular publications, and in the mouths of thousands.
