About the Program

The Mission

The mission of the graduate program in Education for Healthcare Professionals (EDHP) is to educate healthcare professionals and researchers to be exemplary educators and leaders possessing the qualifications necessary to advance knowledge and technologies that improve healthcare globally.

The Purpose

  • Provide foundational skills necessary to be an excellent dental hygiene educator.
  • Conduct research to develop and improve innovative educational programs in dental hygiene and health care education.
  • Prepare dental hygiene educational leaders with a broad and rigorous foundation in the theory and practice of education

Program Overview

The EDHP Program results in a Certificate or Master of Science degree in Education for Healthcare Professionals.  All courses are conducted online to facilitate flexibility for the graduate dental hygienist; the courses are not self-paced. EDHP students will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with many different health professionals in their classes, including dentists, nurses, physicians, and pharmacists

Program Requirements

Certificate

Individuals interested in the certificate can expand their knowledge of teaching and curriculum development.  The certificate program requires 14 credit hours.  The Certificate courses may be applied to the Master's as long as the degree is completed in a time frame of 7 years from the point when the initial Certificate courses were taken.

Master of Science Degree (M.S.)

Individuals interested in the M.S. degree will develop the background and skills necessary to be excellent teachers in their areas of specialty.  The degree plan requires 34 credit hours, which are organized into three categories:  education courses, healthcare professional/interprofessional courses, and research/thesis courses.
