Stomatology Center
The Stomatology Clinic at Texas A&M College of Dentistry is a division of the Department of Periodontics devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with unusual and challenging oral diseases. In addition to patient care, the Clinic has a strong research component to help advance patient care for the future. Since its establishment in 1984, thousands of patients have visited the Clinic with conditions ranging from canker sores to cancer. Common conditions include dermatologic diseases (lichen planus, mucous membrane pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris), chronic and debilitating dry and burning mouth, oral allergies (foods, products, and dental restorative materials), and other lumps, bumps, and blisters.
Many of these conditions are referred to as “orphan diseases” because patients often travel from doctor-to-doctor in search of a diagnosis and treatment for their “mysterious” oral health problem. With the Clinic’s unique blend of faculty composed of periodontists and oral and maxillofacial pathologists as well as its close association with physicians including dermatologists, rheumatologists, otolaryngologists (EENT) and others, it has become a beacon of hope for diagnosis and management of unusual diseases and disorders.
The Stomatology Center also supports the online International Oral Lichen Planus Support Group. For more information, call 214.828.8901.
