Diversity & Inclusion Awards
The Annual Diversity & Inclusion Awards are intended to recognize faculty, staff, and students within the Texas A&M University College of Dentistry community. These individuals demonstrate a commitment to creating a safe and supportive community by (1) engaging in creative and innovative strategies that promote and advance diversity and inclusive excellence within the college or other organization; or willingly serving, encouraging, and supporting persons of varying race, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religious or political perspective, education level, socio-economic status, physical and mental ability, veteran status or other human differences.
Selection Process
Each fall semester, the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council will review nominations using the award rubric to recommend individuals to the IDEA Committee who should be recognized for their diversity and inclusion efforts during the previous academic year. One faculty, one staff, and one student will be recognized each year.
If the council determines that none of the nominees in a particular category meets the criteria, it may recommend that no award be given. There is no requirement that the award be presented annually.
Description of the Award
Each award will consist of a framed certificate and the choice of a gift or monetary award (subject to University regulations). The awards will be presented during the Annual Diversity & Inclusion Day Convocation or other appropriate public ceremony. Students will receive a cash award. Faculty may choose cash or a stipend to be used for academic enrichment (includes travel); Staff may choose cash or a full-day administrative leave with pay.
