Biography
Dr. Andreas Polycarpou is the James J. Cain ’51 Professor of Mechanical Engineering and is currently serving as Texas A&M College of Dentistry’s acting dean. He is an accomplished educator, distinguished researcher, and a highly skilled academic leader. Prior to assuming his responsibilities at the dental school, Dr. Polycarpou led the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University for nine years. Dr. Polycarpou's research interests include tribology, nanotechnology, microtribology related to miniature systems, magnetic storage, surface characterization, friction/vibration interaction, system dynamics and modeling, and experimental design and instrumentation. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
