Biography

Education and Post-Graduate Training

Ariana Vargas currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Program
at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry.

Professor Vargas received her Associate of Sciences from Eastfield College, Bachelor of Science
in Dental Hygiene from Texas A&M University Health Science Center, and Master of Public
Health with a concentration in Leadership from the University of North Texas Health Science
Center.

She has more than 8 years of experience in clinical practice as a registered dental hygienist in
general and cosmetic dentistry. Her expertise includes educating others about cultural
competency, promoting good oral hygiene practices, preventing dental diseases, and ensuring
access to dental care for communities. Areas of interest include mentorship, leadership
development, refining dental hygiene students’ clinical skills, and advocating for inclusion and
equality.

Professor Vargas is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Texas
Dental Hygienists’ Association, Dallas Dental Hygienists’ Association, Association for Dental
Safety, Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas, American Dental Education Association, and
Hispanic Student Dental Association.

She currently serves as course director for Public & Community Health. Additional clinical
teaching responsibilities are in Preclinical Dental Hygiene, Clinical Dental Hygiene courses I-IV,
and Applied Dental Materials.
