Crime is always a potential problem for students, faculty and staff. Being in a large hospital complex and near a popular entertainment area, increasing the risk for crime. The college community is urged to use safety precautions at all times. Students frequently stay late at the college and are urged to take every precaution upon leaving the buildings. Students are encouraged to walk in groups, if possible, when leaving the buildings.
Security officers are available to walk you to your car. To contact a security officer in the Main Building for an escort or other assistance, go to the Hall Street entrance. If no officer is in the security office, call 214-828-8335. To contact a security officer in the Clinic & Education Building during its hours of operation, call 214-828-8339.
A security officer is on campus 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. A second security officer is available in the Clinic Building during normal clinic hours, after hours on weekdays from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. , and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from noon until 8 p.m. Officers on campus carry cell phones that receive relayed calls from the security phone numbers. The cell phone also receives calls from the emergency phones in campus elevators.
All criminal incidents should be reported to the security staff as soon as possible. Campus crime statistics are maintained in the security office in the Main Building and may be viewed at any time. Annual Clery Reports for our campus are available in the footer section of the college’s website. The college complies with the requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act concerning timely warnings (crime) and emergency notifications (e.g. weather, disease outbreak).
Crime Prevention Tips
- Always walk in groups of two or more - especially at night.
- Lock your car and remove the keys. Lock all valuables in the trunk or leave them at home.
- Check underneath the car as you approach and look in the back seat to be certain no one is hiding there before unlocking the car door. Once inside, lock the doors.
- Carry only necessary cash.
- Walk confidently; have your keys ready as you approach your car door.
- Trust your instincts - if someone doesn't look right to you or makes you uneasy, get away fast! Immediately report them to campus security or police.
Building Access
Students have 24-hour access to the Main Building, and may enter the building using the Hall Street entrance. An access card must be used at all times to enter the building.
Students must enter the Clinic Building through the student/employee entrance during weekday hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Faculty and staff should also enter the Clinic Building through this entrance. All students, faculty, and staff must enter the Clinic Building through the patient/visitor entrance after hours and on weekends. An access card must be used. After hours use of the Clinic Building is Monday through Friday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 8 p.m. During holiday periods after hours access may be reduced.
