About the Department
The Department of Diagnostic Sciences has two divisions: Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology, both with their own director and teaching programs.
Pathology is responsible for all teaching of general and oral pathology to dental, dental hygiene and graduate students; provides consultation and biopsy services to the College and the professional community, and has a residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
Radiology is responsible for all imaging programs and, through the Imaging Center, a service to dental professionals. Radiology has a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
Oral Pathology
The Division of Pathology has four full-time faculty members, Dr. John M. Wright, Dr. Leticia Cabido, Dr. Madhu Shrestha and Dr. Victoria Woo. The faculty provides pathology instruction and patient consultations to dental hygiene, dental and advanced education students. The faculty provides a biopsy service to the college and professional community. The division also has an advanced education program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Oral Radiology
The Division of Radiology includes the Radiology Clinic and the Oral & Maxillofacial Imaging Center, which are located on the first floor of the main building. There are four attending radiologists, Drs. Madhu Nair, Hui Liang, Scott Ehlers, Solah Shahmirzadi, Michael Payne and Mehrnaz Tahmasbi Arashlow, to provide diagnostic interpretive and consultation services. Basic and advanced diagnostic imaging services are provided for regular patients of the dental school as well as patients referred by the professional community for specific imaging studies. The full-service Imaging Center provides services to both the college and the community to assist in the management of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, dental implant site assessment, orthodontics, craniofacial anomalies, salivary gland dysfunction, trauma, and general pathology.The division also has an advanced education program in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
