Brief Biography:

Dr.  Miriam Grushka has received her DDS and a PhD in Oral biology from the University of Toronto. She has engaged in the practice of Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain for many years, treating patients with mucosal disease, including lichen planus, Burning Mouth pain, taste disturbance and other orofacial pains. She has previously been on the Faculty of Dentistry at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland and at the University of Illinois in Chicago. She is Board certified by the American Boards of Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain and a Certified Specialist in Oral Medicine both in Canada and the United States. She has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters and has delivered numerous presentations on topics such as Burning Mouth Syndrome, Oral sensory phantoms, and the impact of mucosal disease.

Dr. Grushka currently maintains a private practice in Toronto limited to Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain. She treats many patients with oral lichen planus.

Ross Kerr, DDS, MSD, is a dentist and an oral medicine specialist who manages oral mucosal diseases, dry mouth and medically complex patients needing dental treatment. With a zeal for detecting cancer in its infancy, Dr. Kerr’s forte is in the use of novel chair-side techniques for early detection of oral cancer and precancers. He works in tandem with oncologic surgeons to establish meticulous margin mapping of lesions and provides close observation of patients with an oral cancer history.

Dr. Kerr is a clinical associate professor in the NYU Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology and Medicine department and is keenly involved in research. He directs the College of Dentistry’s oral mucosal disease service and likes nothing better than to instill his dental students with a passion for cancer prevention.

Dr. Epstein graduated from Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.  He received a certificate in Oral Medicine and Masters' of Science Degree in Dentistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA, in 1979.

Dr. Epstein is a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of Canada in Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a Diplomate American Board of Oral Medicine and was an examiner and President of the Board of Oral Medicine. He is currently Professor and Medical Director, Oncology Dentistry, Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, Cedars-Sinai Health System Los Angeles and Consulting Staff, Division of Otolaryngoloy and Head and Neck Surgery, and Director of Dental oncology Services, City of Hope National Medical Center, Duarte CA. He conducts a private referral practice in Oral Medicine.

Professor Stephen Challacombe is the Martin Rushton Professor of Oral Medicine in the Department of Oral Medicine, King's College London Dental Institute and Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He is the former Dean for External Affairs for the Health Schools and for King’s Health Partners at King's College. Dr.Challacombe's topic for the webcast is Evidence Based Treatments and Disease Severity. His presentation is followed by a discussion with Drs. Dr. James Sciubba is a world-renowned Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist, who has published widely and presents nationally and internationally. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. He provides clinical expertise in oral mucous membrane diseases, jaw tumors, odontogenic tumors, assessment and treatment of facial pain and salivary gland diseases.  His presentation is followed by a discussion with Drs. Terry Rees and Nancy Burkhart of Texas A&M College of Dentistry, and a brief Q/A session.

Dr. Libby Edwards is a physician in private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina where she has a large population of Lichen Planus patients. Dr. Edwards is also an adjunct clinical associate professor in dermatology at the University of North Carolina, and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and the Study of Vaginal Disease.Her clinical interests focus on the surgical repair of damage to genital areas, and on mucous membrane dermatoses. Her topic in this webinar is Erosive Lichen Planus.

Dr. Michael A. Huber is a Professor and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. Dr. Huber received his DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, San Antonio, Texas in 1980 and a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, Maryland in 1988. He is certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine.
