What Patients Need To Know

The fee for the biopsy you recently had has two parts. The doctor who performed your biopsy charges a fee for surgically removing or sampling your lesion and there is a pathology fee for the microscopic interpretation of that specimen. Oral Pathologists are the only dental/pathology specialists with specific training in oral pathology. Their specialty training allows them to provide the greatest expertise and experience when interpreting biopsies from the oral regions. While general pathologists can legally provide this service, they are not specifically trained to do so. Your doctor’s decision to have an oral pathologist interpret your biopsy demonstrates their understanding and commitment that you, his/her patient, receive the highest quality of care available.

Because of the recently enacted "No Surprise Act", your doctor should have discussed with you the fee for your pathology interpretation. Depending on what was chosen, you may or may not receive a separate invoice for pathology services. If so instructed, we can also directly bill Medicaid, Medicare as well as both medical and dental insurance. We participate in the Medicare reimbursement program and agree to accept only the Medicare fee schedule for your service. We do not contract with any medical insurance companies, but we can file medical insurance claims and receive out of network payment. We contract with Napa and Associates in Illinois for billing. Please contact Napa with any questions about your pathology bill at 800.516.2508.
